In order for someone to receive online donations do they have to setup a fundraising page, or is there a general donation page?

Yes, you must enable online fundraising for that particular trip, and each member will need to set up their own online fundraising page. There is a video at the top of the "My Support" page that shows each team member how to do it.  

Users are welcome to use the default title and default support letter and add no picture, but the result will not be as engaging to potential donors. 

(Alternatively, you can let everyone use the "group fundraising link" at the bottom of the "team $ page," but incoming gifts will not be segmented by team member and everything will dump into one generic sub account for the trip. )
